There is a question on Y! A about 'rape culture'. I'd not heard this term until recently. Where did it come from, who coined it and why?

The Wiktionary has a good take on it:

It did come out of feminist theory but also about male rape in jail. This is the first documented case that they have:

It disturbs the peace, and what rape does, with a lasting effect a person will have to live with it over. Instead of having love, and making it, respectfully so, and mutual between people, so this has a lasting effect on people, forevermore. Instead, it is the opposite of this. Hate, being the reason for crime, and it stresses people, rather than love, and it isn't stressing for people. It's all good, then, and a wonderful world. This is my understanding of what is meant by it.

It is a term that was created to help push an agenda.

We could also say that America has an obesity culture (given that obesity cases outnumber rape cases by a phenomenal number), but that wouldn't be politically correct, would it?
