Help with brackets question?

The question was to multiply out 3(2a+1). I got 5a+3, but the teacher has marked it as wrong. How do you do it, then?

    3 times 2 is 6, not 5.

    3(2a + 1) =

    6a + 3.

    3(2a+1) = 3*2a +3*1 =6a + 3

It's 6a+3 because you were supposed to multiply 3and2.. You added them which was wrong

    Good luck:)
