moving in with my aunt and uncle? what do I need?

I'm 17 and I'm moving back to my hometown with my aunt and uncle this summer for education reasons while my parents stay where I'm currently living. My counselor told me that all I really need is the power of attorney form, but I want to know if there's anything else I need. Would I need to bring my birth certificate, passport, that kind of info? I already got my school transcript and immunization records.

Yes, your Aunt and Uncle need to have you fill out a power of attorney form in front of a Notary Public, and some witnesses which the Notary may be able to supply, plus your photo ID to show the Notary and prove who you are. The Notary will help you fill it out so your kinfolks can take care of you legally in case you take ill, or something. But, being only 17, perhaps your parents should fill out a Power of Attorney form giving their rights to care for you as a minor to the Aunt and Uncle. This is so they can authorize medical treatment for you if you need it, and make decisions for you.

I would bring full documentation. On the other hand, how much trouble would it be to obtain it through the mail from your parents? I don't know why they need a power of attorney either, necessarily but I might be wrong.

The gist of it is they are expecting you to go to classes and come home to study. Not hop a tramp steamer to somewhere else. But I wouldn't be surprised if the school would want to see certain documents.
