Dressing up in Time Square?

Me and my friend want to dress up in period costumes in Times Square kinda like Hamilton and we just wanted to know if it s illegal? Like we wanted to see if people would take pics with us and we d do improv but we weren t planning in charging money like the other performers. Do we still need a permit? Cause we could just argue it s parody/improv or we just like wearing that clothing.

It is legal to do almost anything in NYC-just don't go naked (the Politically correct folks will *****).

And if you want to pressure folks to give you 'tips' for taking a picture with you-well, that is a hotbed of issues right now.

It is legal, but it is illegal to ask for any compensation for anything from anyone. With the latest developments, NYPD can argue that simply dressing that way (and certainly doing any improv performances) is ipso facto a solicitation. Correct or incorrect, it wouldn't matter since the result is they're still going to give you a hard time.

There is no dress code at the Times Square. You can wear (or not wear) anything you want.

You'll see a lot more strangely dressed people there.
