Can someone explain why gyms say you cant wear jeans?

After working 10 hours i go to my gym and they say i cant wear jeans because it wears out the material. Can someone verify weather this is true or not? I think the seats wear from hundreds of uses its common sense, not from jeans. Most shorts and pants are made from cotton like jeans whats the difference?

From a practical standpoint, denim is more rough than workout clothing, so it can accelerate the wear and tear on the equipment seats.

That said, they actually don't REALLY need a reason because a gym has a right to set its own rules. Taken to the extreme, and if they really wanted to, they could require people to wear shirts with their gym logo or brand if they want to use the facilities. I agree that would be a ridiculous rule, but it's within their rights to do it; likewise, the members have the right to take their business elsewhere.

The fact that the gym gave you a practical reason for the no-jeans policy means that it's not just an arbitrary rule.

difference is the texture of material. jeans are much rougher and pressure and friction would surely be harder on seat
