I personally am very cautious about what I post anywhere on the internet. It's not that I have anything to hide, but rather that I don't want internet sites gathering my information (data mining) so that they can target me with advertisements and products.

I do not keep my friends' email addresses on social media accounts. I keep that information on paper in my desk (and a backup copy on a USB stick). I've had a social media account hacked before and all my friends got spam emails purportedly from me. Hence I 'pulled the plug' on having contact info floating around in cyberspace.

As to what other people post, there's nothing to be done about it. Irresponsible people will post whatever they want. I don't have the right to tell people what they can and cannot post. Seeing as how governments watch those sites anyway, I leave the policing to them.
