Should a vegan work at a restaurant that serves animal products?
I've been vegan for about three months now, and I'm currently looking for my first job. I thought waitressing would be something I'd like to do, but there was one thing bothering me. Is it hypocritical for a vegan to work at a restaurant that supports and buys from the meat and dairy industry? Is it hypocritical to carry a plate of steak and serve it to a customer? I'm iffy about it, but there aren't many options job-wise for me. Thanks.

What more important to you? Paying the bills or living the broke life?

Take the job. It's not hypocritical as long as you remind your customers how morally inferior they are.

I wouldn't advise working at one, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of it now, and go into business.

When you enter the labor force, you do what you have to do. I know a vegan that works at a burger joint. She doesn't agree with the menu, but has bills to pay and every night when she gets home, she apologizes to the cows she had to serve up to people. Other than that, she seems to be doing well.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and if the bills need to be paid, they need to be paid. However, waitressing is not your only option in a restaurant; you could also work as a hostess or a busboy. If you're still feeling weird about it, you could do some research online and see if there are any local vegan or vegetarian restaurants hiring.
