Are atheists more moral than religious people?

Atheist do good and avoid evil because they care for other people. Religious people do good and avoid evil because of their selfish need to get rewarded in the afterlife. Doesn't it make atheists better people?

Reasons do not enter into "moral".

Morals are lists of rules of behavior to be followed.

As long as you follow the rules, you are moral,

regardless of why you follow the rules..

I think ethics is more the subject

    you are addressing.

    Ethics is the reasoning process

that leads one to decisions about behavior.

Religious people, who fear infinite punishment,

and who hope to gain infinite reward,

    are clearly selfishly motivated.

Those who do good, for others,

with no promise of infinite reward or punishment,

    appear to be less selfish.

But, if they see their own reality

as intertwined with everyone else's reality,

    then their generosity and altruism,

are actually about improving reality for everyone,

    including themselves and their families.

Their selfishness is just a bit less exclusive.

Observing the statistics that show the makeup of our prison population, atheists are very under-represented (when compared to the general population), and christians are over-represented.

This supports the notion that atheists do not get incarcerated as often as christians on average.

  • no, you just need to stay in R&S for 1-2 hours to see that dear.

If you take Kolaid and water it down it may still resemble Kolaid but if you put it to the test it clearly is not.

Hamilton's work on Kin Selection is, today, accepted as a scientific proof that altruism is in our genes. We care for each other as it helps us to survive, theists or atheists.

But then, we are made to live in groups no bigger than perhaps 150 individuals (ref: "Homo Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind). When resources are scarce, we then face tribal conflicts and we resort in dehumanization by making them different, not like us. The German Nazi did it with the Jews that they compared with rats and in 1914, the French soldiers went to war believing the Germans were eating their own children.

... and that's the way it is! Theists or atheists follow the same sets of genes we, all homo sapiens, have. Moral is only in hour head.

Atheists borrow from biblical christianity when they try to be moral. that certainly doesnt come from naturalism, materialism, or evolutionism.

Atheists' morals are dependent upon the society in which they live. Imagine what ISIS atheist morals are like.
