What fuel efficient vehicle should I buy?

I live in Texas in a mid size town and I'm moving to San Antonio. I have Silverado now but gas would kill me living there so to my regret I'm having to buy a car to save gas. Here are the ones I like so far:

Chevy Impala

Chevy Malibu

Kia Cadenza

Kia Optima

Ford Fusion

Dodge Charger

Chevy Colorado

GMC Canyon

    Well, that leaves out any & all pickups since they are not fuel efficient. Next question would be dependability. In which case that would remove KIA from your list. So now your left with Ford & Chevy. Either one may or may not be more better then the other one but the idea vehicle would have to be semi small with a 4 cylinder engine since they get better gas mileage then their 6 & 8 cylinder counterparts. Next it would have to be practically a brand new car since something made 5 years ago isnt as fuel efficient as one made last year. Next would be the weight issue since a lighter vehicle is better on gas then a heavier one

    Impala & Malibu are pretty much the same car with the exception of exterior body trim differences

    Have you ever checked out the chevy cruze? They get really good mileage.
