Good manners, including politeness and the use of phrases like "please" and "thank you" are the grease that keep the wheels of society turning smoothly.
Like any machine, remove that lubrication and the resulting friction usually generates so much excess heat that the machine ends up burning itself out as it runs.
With machinery, never forget the lubrication.
