Why was Total War introduced in Germany during WW2? Three reasons why?

    1. Total war was partly a response to the disaster at Stalingrad. The reich had to better mobilize its resources to compensate for the losses and deal with tough opponents.

    2. It was also a response to the Allied demand for unconditional surrender. Since the allies evidently would settle for nothing less than the destruction of the reich, it had no choice but to go all out to prevent this in part through total mobilization of manpower and resources.

    3. By 1943 when total war became policy, the greater industrial and manpower resources of the US, together with other adversaries like the USSR, were finally being brought to bear on the reich. Under the circumstances it was imperative for the Germans to maximize use of their own human and material resources.
