Is there a collar to place on your pet that will make an alarm sound when they approach a door?

I have a deaf dog (since birth) who is old and worn out who is excellent about going outside to use the restroom. However, she has to be assisted to go out because she will roam if not in the fenced backyard. She used to whine when she needed to go out, but now she just sits at the back door, or lies down, waiting patiently until the poor girl can't hold it and uses it. The back door is out of our line of site unless we are actually using it, and she is so quiet that no one notices she is back there until it is too late, which sucks. We have a set potty schedule, of about four let outs a day, but getting older that sometimes isn't efficient enough, and that's the most we can do.

I'm wondering if there is a collar I can buy to place on her, or a tag to place on her already wearing collar, that will sound an alarm (hopefully nothing too loud) when she approaches the back door so we can know to let her out. She's too old to train to those touch sensors, and I'd rather not have mats that do this as this area is frequented by our cats as well (see through door). Our other dogs are good about alerting us, just not her. Basically something to help her out.

One thing I can suggest is a shock collar.

Hear me out first- some of the newer shock collars I've seen make it possible to completely turn off the 'shock' and instead replace it with a sound.

It may be possible to find an 'invisible' fence that can be paired with a 'sound only' collar for your dog, although this would probably be rather expensive.

Motion sensors aren't a bad idea, but considering you have other pets (and people!) in the house, it might just get a bit tiresome.

Another thing I can suggest is getting some cheap Nanny-cam type things (I've seen them for $20) that can connect to your phone and allow you to see things live. If you put those in areas that you feel may not be the best place for your dog to be, you can always have a quick check over them on your phone if she ever disappears from your line of sight.

There are motion detector sensors which you can buy for maybe $20-30 which will sound an alarm if anything crosses the line the motion sensor monitors. You can put them anywhere, e.g. low down close to the door. As long as your dog is taller than the cats, you might be able to put it up so the cats don't activate it.

The alarm in such motion sensors can be a sound like door bell or a real alarm, you can usually choose what you want.

Hum, difficult one with a deaf dog. However, my Basset, who isn't deaf or elderly, will take himself off to the back door and if it's not open (which it tends to be in the better weather), lies there. I get the 'feeling' that he's absent, so go find him and let him out. I'd suggest you get into a routine of taking your old girl out regularly now, not waiting for her to ask. And that may need to be every 3 hours during the daytime as she's probably not able to hold for as long as she could.

Seems like a motion sensor could be easily rigged to flash a light or beep an alarm for you. You can get them cheap at lowe's or home depot or menard's .What a good idea BTW. You should get a design patent.
