  • Helping a dog transition in new home while old owner is still around?

To make a long story short, my boyfriends dog was attacked by his brothers dog, and while defending himself, Butch (boyfriends dog) bit and left a mark on the other dog. Butch has only been with them for about two months, other dog almost 5 years. Boyfriends mom refuses to let Butch back in the house.

I took Butch in, as he d been in my home plenty of times and I knew he got along with all my own animals, including my three other dogs. My boyfriend comes around regularly, like at least 5 hours a day, seven days a week. Unfortunately, the other 19 hours a day, he is deeply depressed. He s lost weight even though he s eating plenty, and is just not handling like I like. He gets extremely overjoyed when my boyfriend comes over, but that can t be 24/7. And he doesn t want to bond with any of us, even though we try.

Any idea what to do to help Butch out? When he s over, my bf spends the whole time with him. Going back home is not an option, we don t want to risk him hurting the other dog worse (even though the other dog is the aggressor)/

  • Getting dog to chew his food? Read description?

My lab is 6 and has never chewed his food, he just swallows it whole. He eats 2 cups daily which keeps him very healthy, with a high energy lifestyle running miles a day and still has some fat on his belly (not much).

I've tried slow feeder bowls, many different kinds even homemade ones, large rocks he can't swallow, feeding him a piece at a time, larger dog food bites (that was a bad idea and didn't work short or long term). The only thing that I've done to help him digest better is soak his food so its already prechewed. Feeding on the floor, putting nasty but safe human foods (which he normally just eats, too). Tried homemade diets with vet reference, different dog foods (nothing lower quality than Diamond Naturals which is what he currently eats). Ive tried reaching him to stop every bite, doesn't work at all. Each over time. I don't mind soaking his food, but during obedience training he swallows all treats whole no matter the size and it worries me. Plus I don't trust food that's been soaking longer than an hour, I worry about bacteria build up and I have little time in morning/afternoon to boil water and those are the only times I get to feed him (he comes everywhere with me during the day which is how he gets his exercise and I can't feed him during that time).

I won't feed canned food, not an option. He's my only inside pet. I typically feed at night. And since he starts working early morning it's not safe to feed mornings due to bloat.

  • Georgia Beaches that allow horseback riders?

Me and my friend are dying to take our girls riding on the beach. Riding someone elses horses isn't an option, we want to bring our own (and yes we have current coggins/shots etc). Where in Georgia, North Florida or Southern South Carolina are horses allowed on the beach?

  • Dog bite finger swelling up in pain two weeks after being bitten?

I was bitten by a small dog just over two weeks ago. It was just my right ring finger, no where on my hand or other fingers. Doctor did not prescribe antibiotics as the wounds (small puncture holes) were not deep. Saw him a few days later for checkup and wounds were healed over and swelling and pain gone from the finger. By the next week the wounds were gone and it was like I'd never been bitten.

But now almost two weeks after last doctor visit my finger has swelled back up and is severely painful, almost worst than before. I can't bend my finger either. I haven't broken my finger, it's not bruised, red, none of the bite wounds are red, no infection of any kind. It basically swelled up over night. I'm out of town and can't go see my doc.

What could be ailing my finger now? Pain meds are barely touching it, and I don't have a fever.

  • What is the process of getting a Hedgehog breeders license in Georgia? Requirements?

How many animals am I required to own with a Georgia hedgehog breeders license? Am I required to breed and sell them or can I just own them? What cage/housing requirements are there?

We've owned hedgehogs in the past but have since moved here where they are not legal as pets. BUT in Georgia you CAN have a breeders license and own, breed and sell them (only sell out of state or to other breeders). Nutrition and housing requirements aren't an issue but just want to be up to standards for inspection. I'm curious about the whole process, never had to go through it. My mom wants a hedgehog (or two) again, we do NOT want to breed them. We want them as pets and are extremely responsible pet owners, with plenty of vet references and experience in animals, and are not "Oh lets buy this" then sell it two weeks later kind of people. We keep our animals until God decides it's their time, or find excellent homes under contract (however the Hedgehogs will be here forever)

  • What causes a horse to eat another horses mane?

My friends new 3y/o TWH filly (whom she's had for less than a month) ate her 14 y/o Paint geldings mane. I feel so bad for her, he had a 2 foot long mane!

Anyway, my thoughts were that A) she's a youngin or B) she is mineral deficient. What are y'alls thoughts as to what may have happened?

  • Where would I go to get boots shortened?

I have larger calves, runs in the family (my mom was in a pants size 10 when she was in her 20's and still had massive calves). I can't wear normal cowgirl boots because the leg won't fit my leg. My friend suggested buy the boots I want, and have them cut down to ankle high. But I have no idea where I would do that. Where would I look into doing that?

  • Good low-fat homemade dog food diet for dog with pancreatitis?

She has already been treated by vet and is healed back up. Vet advised starting her on a low-fat diet to prevent it later on. She is 8y/o large breed mutt who is about 10 lbs overweight (vet said not very overweight but enough to be considered). She has been on Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice

I'd like to start making her food at home rather than buy a dog food. Something low fat. Any good recipes would be great. She's going to start being fed smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.

  • Is my horse colicing?

We started switching over to new feed today as my mare has dropped a bit of weight and we are trying to build her back up. No drastic weight change but noticeable.

I walked out a moment ago to find her rolling. Yes I know horses roll just for the heck of it.

I took her and trailered her to see if shed poop. She didn't. I lunged her some per an expert's orders for about 10 minutes and no poop. She was very interested in grass (normal), is eating hay, drinking, and took a small handful of alfalfa pellets with happiness. Is acting fine, doesn't seem uncomfortable. She is releasing gas but not a whole lot.

    She's never coliced before.

  • Will a 16 y/o be tried as an adult in this felony case? Georgia?

16y/o boy was charged with hunting on public road, hunting at night and hunting large game. He had a hunting license. He was arrested but bailed out. He was driving down the road shining deer, shooting at them from the road, at around 1am. Georgia.

  • Facebook deleted my video that included a short portion of a song that was playing on the radio behind me?

It was raining outside so we were working horses in the barn, and I did not realize that the radio could be heard behind me. Around 30 seconds of a 3 minute long song could be heard, barely, and facebook deleted it.

I cannot delete the audio as I have commentary in the video that needs to be heard. That is out of the question.

I want to know if this violates the fair use policy? As I would not think it would. I had not downloaded the song and it was playing on the radio freely behind me. We were not performing to the song in any way (I literally didn t even realize the radio was on, the rain was THAT loud). What can I do?

  • Is there a collar to place on your pet that will make an alarm sound when they approach a door?

I have a deaf dog (since birth) who is old and worn out who is excellent about going outside to use the restroom. However, she has to be assisted to go out because she will roam if not in the fenced backyard. She used to whine when she needed to go out, but now she just sits at the back door, or lies down, waiting patiently until the poor girl can't hold it and uses it. The back door is out of our line of site unless we are actually using it, and she is so quiet that no one notices she is back there until it is too late, which sucks. We have a set potty schedule, of about four let outs a day, but getting older that sometimes isn't efficient enough, and that's the most we can do.

I'm wondering if there is a collar I can buy to place on her, or a tag to place on her already wearing collar, that will sound an alarm (hopefully nothing too loud) when she approaches the back door so we can know to let her out. She's too old to train to those touch sensors, and I'd rather not have mats that do this as this area is frequented by our cats as well (see through door). Our other dogs are good about alerting us, just not her. Basically something to help her out.

I can't find information on these items

    -synthetic western saddles

    -Gaited saddles w/o a horn

    -breast collars with fringe

-helmets colored other than black (solid turquoise for instance

-braided names/tails. If allowed, what kinds are allowed (ie are running or diamond weaves allowed)

    Thank you in advance.

  • How much would you charge for working these amount of horses?

I'm getting asked to work 2-3 horses a day about 4-5 days a week (give or take), rotating out from 7-10 horses (rotate out so each horse is worked every other day or so). I'm also getting asked to groom, and afternoon feed on some days for these horses as well. There are 12 on the property but a few are retired. I may work more than that, but that is the least amount. I'm wondering what I would be asking to be paid.

My reason for wondering is because the girl is wanting me to bring my horse out for completely free. She wants to also provide feed and hay for her as well. She has a nice barn and facilities so I am very willing to take her up on the offer. In return for working at the barn.

  • What would I need to include in a training contract?

I am getting a horse to put miles on next month. I am worried this girl is going to flip on me. We agreed to $15 a day for five days a week, so $300 a month, plus $100 board at my friends board, and feed/hay costs.

This girl was also trying to get rid of a pig recently. She has been abusing the pig (misinformed about Mini Pigs) Here is what worried me. We have a friend willing to take the pig no matter what, but was more willing if it was spayed. When we mentioned, she stated she could not afford to spay the gilt. That caught me off guard. Especially the fact she is so willing to just let the horse come here and be here without coming out to see the place.

I'm not too worried about the girl abandoning the horse here. Its a nice mare, we could easily sell her if she did and find her a good home. I just want to have good legal standing and have my butt safe in the event she abandons the horse and thus we need to sell it, so we aren't sued. We are doing a contract here at the barn with alibies and even are having a friend who is a sheriff come out and witness the signing. But I would like to know what we should place in the contract? To keep her and us safe.

  • Period is late?

So my period is 3 days late. It's very regular, never had an issue but once before. Regular 28 days and have never been late a day, only early one or two before. I've been having small cramps here and there. No Spotting. I haven't had sex since January 2015, so pregnancy is out of the question. The only time I've ever been late was when I thought I was pregnant February last year and I stressed myself so bad I missed a week. Not stressed really now. When should I be worried enough to see a doctor?

  • Should we switch horses or ride our own?

I'm giving my friend some fun Barrel and Pole Bending lessons today. My mare is already trained but her mare hasn't even been walked on the pattern before. My mare won't run unless I'm on her, only walk/trot. I've done quite a few lessons on her, barrels, poles, or just regular riding lessons. Should we switch horses today or ride our own? I feel her and her horse could benefit from a switch.
