why are jon and ramsey snow's last names the same? are they brothers? or do they have different mothers with the same last name?

    bastards (children born out of wedlock) do not take their fathers' names, so they're given bastard names depending on the region they're from. in the north, the bastard name is snow, while somewhere else, like dorne, has the bastard name sand. if you only watched the tv show, you may have missed that detail.
