Solve By Quadratic Formula?

Quadratic Formula:-

(a + b )^2 = (a)^2 + 2ab + (b)^2

(a - b )^2 = (a)^2 - 2ab + (b)^2

(i) 3x^2 + 6x + 2 = 0

    3x² + 6x + 2 = 3x² + 6x + 3 - 1

    = 3(x² + 2x + 1) - 1

    = 3(x+1)² - 1 = 0

    => 3(x+1)² = 1

    => sqrt(3) |x+1| = 1

    => |x+1| = 1/sqrt(3)

    => x = -1-1/sqrt(3) or x = -1+1/sqrt(3)

    Neither of the given expressions involving a, b is the "quadratic formula".

    The quadratic formula states that if ax^2 + bx + c = 0 then x = (-a ± √(b^2-4ac)) / (2a).

    In the case of your problem (i), you would have a=3, b=6, c= 2, so just plug those values into the quadratic formula that I just gave.
