GSD puppy aggressive at strangers ?

Hi my 5 months old male GSD puppy bark at strangers when they are passing my home. But when they come close he wags tail and try to lick.

Is he going to be protective or friendly ? But doesnt look FEARFUL.

This is not aggression. If it was, he would continue to bark at or bite the people when they come close. Dogs bark at things. He is simply telling you that there is someone there.

I think this might be a natural protective trait in gsd when I was a child around 5 we had a gSD and she was very protective over me if anyone where to shout at me or if a stranger came close to me but to my knowledge she was never aggressive

It is getting time for some professional obedience training, or you could wind up with a dangerous dog on your hands.

By instinct, they are defensive of their domain and master, one reason they make perfect guard dogs.

Right now, just showing protective behavior, and friendly to strangers is not the best idea.

If they learn to trust everybody, they will trust a home invader too. They are best suited for one master that they obey commands without question, but should not show spontanious aggression to anyone, They can develop aggression on their own without proper training.
