Athiest wanting to know more about Latter Day saints? (how?)?

hey y'all, im an atheist and the LDS church has always fascinated me (Mormons are also the nicest people Ive ever met). Ive been To Joseph smiths birthplace, and went to salt lake city and took several tours. To learn more about Mormonism, is it a good idea to just read the book of Mormon, or should i read the Christian bible first then read the book of Mormon? thanks!

One doesn't have to know the Bible to learn from the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a much easier read, so I would start with that.

I've investigated some of its more bizarre claims, and haven't been disappointed. There are plausible geologic events for even the most fantastic claims. Although the Book of Mormon is not a history, per se, there is plenty of historical fact for one to sink their teeth into. The Book of Mormon starts in Jerusalem, where a man named Lehi has lived all his life. Lehi is both rich and spiritual, and has four sons and an unknown number of daughters. His older sons are spoiled, and don't have much faith. His younger sons share his spirituality. When Lehi sees a vision, the older sons think he is nuts, while the younger sons believe everything. Lehi's visions and dreams are such that they eventually disrupt their lives in every conceivable way; they lose their home, their wealth and their standing in the community, all in just a few years. The younger sons roll with the punches, but the older ones constantly complain. They are loyal to their father, but just barely. It is one long fight as the family eventually makes its way to the southern coast of Arabia and builds a ship.

Suspicious behaviour from a so-called atheist!
