Why are people against the Olympics being in Brazil?

The finalists to host the 2016 Summer Olympics were Tokyo, Madrid, Chicago, and Rio. Rio was selected in 2009 despite have the least developed infrastructure, the most pollution problems, the most fragile economy, and most unstable government.

Now, seven years later, there are stories of living quarters and facilities that are not ready, raw sewage still being dumped into the bay that will be used for Olympic events, police officers who may not get paid during the Olympics, and the Brazilian President has had her powers removed from her. Much of this could have been foreseen when Rio was selected.

What could not have been foreseen was Zika. It's not fair to criticize the International Olympic Committee for picking Rio based on Zika, but it's fair to criticize it for everything else.

The media and some fans always negative when a country/city host a major Sporting event, shouldn't really be a surprise.

When Beijing hosted the Olympics, some people/media say it will be a fail because of lack of human rights and the situation between China and Tibet, yet was a success.

When London hosted the Olympics, the people said London will be a fail because of potential terrorist attack and the city being too crowded which could cause problems in traffic, public transport and Hotel stays, yet was a success.

I'm sure Brazil can do their job, Brazil had problems 2 years ago regarding politics during when they hosted the 2014 World cup but it was still a success.

The Zika Virus and now all the sewage and garbage in their rivers. Remember, one of Olympic games - the participants must swim in rivers or the ocean.....right now, they are both polluted.

The decision, to hold this year's Summer Olympics, was decided years ago. Brazil has had more than enough time to get prepared and they have done NOTHING.

The Olympic Committee should cancel this, find another place and move on.

The guys don't know the brazil and they talk about what are listen on the media. The people from brazil are a lot demanding with themselves and if is not perfect is not meant. Lets see the final result. And the zica virus is from other country appeared in Brazil in world cup soccer.

Chris, you have Zika virus in mosquitoes, crime is rampant, the country/city cannot afford to fuel police cars. Rio is slum ridden, the country's economy is in shambles, the place is still not ready to host the games ... oh, it is going to be newsworthy! And if that keeps Trump out of the news, I am all for it!!!
