What usually happens at late summer high school football practices? I mean late july-august until the season starts?

Preseason (July & early August) we stretched and then ran 1/2 mile to a mile for time. We increased by 1/4 mile per week. After that we broke up into five groups. One would do agility drills, the next ran pass patterns or threw. The third did pushups and situps, and the other two played touch football. We would rotate after 10 or 15 minutes. Then we would run sprints and go home.
Three weeks before school we started two-a-days in pads. The morning session was defense based for a couple hours. Then we showered, ate lunch, watched films or had a meeting, and relaxed.
About 2:30 we had our second session in pads. It was offense. Most of that time was three offenses running plays against a bag defense. We got done around 5:00.
It wasn't "the ultimate test" of anything. We never lifted because you can't move the weight room outside and changing to go in and lift would waste too much of our limited time. We did some drills but after the first week most of our time was working as units because of time constraints.

Late summer high school football practices are the ultimate test of strength and conditioning, consisting of many lifting and running drills, to get players into shape for the football season.

That's when you are required to take showers.
