Not only is it irresponsible, but its dangerous.

It is NOT safe to let a pet rat roam 24/7, nor is it safe to keep a lone rat, much less without your parents knowing. Rats need pairs, and they need a safe and secure space. With your current conditions, it is impossible for me to imagine you giving him a good life. Rehome him.

Now if it IS a wild rat, catch it humanely and release it as far as possible into the wild.

He needs a friend. I think you should tell your mom. It is also unsanitary to have him not in a cage. Where does he poo and pee?? It's going to start smelling real bad.

Where did you get this rat? Wherever it may be, bring him back.

Either that or get him a friend.

In other words your house has a rat infestation and you are foolish enough to think you can make a pet out of one of them.

did you buy your rat from a store? or just found it? if you found and kept it then you can get lime disease. and the rat will be running aaround pooping and peeing so you having those around your room and you breathing those fumes in will get you very sick.

He's going to have to pee and poop. The pee can really stink. Get a cage for him.
