Pre-Blood Donation Diet?

Hey, so I m giving blood this Saturday and even though I ve done it before and I m not worried at all, I was wondering what might make for a better donation, and alleviate my after-donation symptom of being REALLY sleepy. Not woozy or dizzy, but sleepy.

Obviously getting a good night s sleep will help, and I know to eat a good breakfast, but is there anything I can do the night before? Or even during this week?

I already take a daily multivitamin. I eat eggs for breakfast most mornings and some sort of meat for dinner, so I have the protein. Are carbs a good idea? Natural sugars? Gatorade before/during/after? Let me know.

Thanks.

Eat foods with iron and drink lots of water immediately before donation. Do not exercise or do increased physical movement after donation. Eat a snack afterwards and have a bigger meal for dinner as your body is replenishing the blood.
