What should I eat the morning of my audition?

I've got a singing audition in about a month from now, and I'm not sure what exactly to eat before the audition. I'm thinking about possibly just getting a smoothie but I don't know any smoothie places in Manhattan New York and I don't know any smoothie places that open very early (possibly 6 in the morning). Any suggestions of what I can eat? I don't want anything that will fill me up completely

Okay--about smoothies. it depends on how YOUR body reacts to the ingredients in the smoothie. Does the smoothie have dairy, or any dairy-like products that might coat your throat? You know how many singers treat any kind of dairy like it's battery acid. If dairy has no issue for you, (it doesn't bother your throat or your tummy), then consider the TEMPERATURE of the smoothie.

Some dairy-free all fruit and veggie smoothies are made with ICE. I don't know about you, but super cold foods and drinks can also kind of "shock" your throat.

While NOTHING you eat OR drink ever touches your vocal cords (you would choke first), you still need to consider what bothers you personally when you eat or drink it. I can drink coffee with cream during intermissions and my voice is FINE. I'm fine. Not so, for everybody.

There is one of our frequent contributors who constantly gives an entire list of foods and drinks to avoid. Again, I respectfully disagree that any or all of them will affect each person the same way. You need to go by history. If something NEVER bothered you before, EVER, it's not going to mess you up just because you plan to sing! If it IS something you are sensitive to in some way--you probably shouldn't eat or drink it at any time! Why give yourself the grief?

(You don't know ANY places in Manhattan that sells smoothies? Like there is NO Starbucks or something? You obviously don't get smoothies very often. And they are super easy to make for anyone with a blender).

I suggest, for a light, nutritious meal, you can have some fresh fruit like apples, grapes, watermelon--nothing too acidic, and on the juicy side. If you aren't vegan or something, maybe some scrambled eggs for protein, and some whole wheat toast (because it's filling, has carbs, and is not TOO filling). Give yourself at LEAST an hour to let it all digest a bit. Sometimes nerves will slow down digestion, so that's another reason not to stuff yourself. If you need to DANCE as well as sing, then you definitely don't want to be overful but you want to make sure you have some energy to move. You can stuff yourself afterward if you wish.

I know this is terrible, but sometimes I really don't EAT (I try to hydrate adequately--mostly water, maybe some juice) because I tend to be busy trying to make sure my voice is adequately warmed up before my audition, and I'm just plain too nervous to eat. Sometimes, I MAKE myself eat, and usually fruit is tolerated well enough. Anyone can manage an apple.

Nothing that is likely to make you burp.
