Question about Leopard geckos and their habitat...?
What exactly do they need in their terrarium? The lady at Petco said the 'starter kit' was all they needed but it didn't even come with hiding decorations. Also, are the overhead lamps acceptable instead of the heater pad underneath? (The kit thing came with a black light and a regular white light. In addition to this, it had the substrate pad, the terrarium, vented cover, thermometer reader- that's it.)

I don't think I've seen a starter kit without things you don't need or missing things that you would need. And most of the time it's best to ignore the information store employees give you, some will even try to sell you useless and/or dangerous supplies (ex. heat rocks).
Leopard geckos basically need: some solid substrate, calcium only dish, 2-3 hides(warm, cool, & humid), under tank heating, thermostat, thermometer, multi-vitamins, calcium without & with D3, & a small water dish. Overhead lamps for heating is a bit pointless, unless you're using them to heat up the air temps at night when it drops too low. Since leopard geckos don't "bask" & tend to stay in a hide during the daytime hours.
