Can you have a title changed to your name with not a drivers license but a identification card?
I am buying this guys car from work. Good guy worked with him for many years. I m buying it cash next week for 3k. I forgot I had lost my drivers license however I do have a proper state identification card. I m not sure how it works but he said he s going to have the title for me ready next week. I never purchased a car before so not sure how handing over a title works but just wondering if I can use my AZ identification card or does it HAVE to be a drivers license

Why not go and get a replacement DL, takes a few minutes and might come in handy if you get pulled over.
You would need to go to the DMV web site and look at the specific listings of acceptable ID for a title change.
In OH they want to see ID at the title office and they compare that to the info on the title.
Not sure about other states.

You don't need an id to just buy a car, but you would need a valid drivers license and insurance to register the car.
To buy the car you just have to sign the back of the title, then you hand the title to your local DMV when you reg ister the car, then they mail you a new title in your name.
