What is the difference between kidnapping and abduction?

Can someone explain the difference? In simple english sentences please. In my language there is just only one word for this.

And why is an Alien abduction an abduction and no kidnapping? I feel really stupid but it's confusing.

Kidnapping is normally done for financial gain - the kidnappers make themselves known, and ask for a ransom. Abduction means taking a person away by force or trickery, for some other reason, known or unknown. Aliens may want to know more about human life on Earth, for example.

There is a difference in meaning between 'abduction' and 'kidnapping'. To abduct someone is to carry the person away against their will by force or deceitful means. The motive or the intent of the abductor(s) is known only after the victim is released or set free

I googled it and believe the answer is... Kidnapping is defined as taking someone for financial gain or , for a short period of time. An abduction is for a long period of time and does not want any financial gain.

Because there are no Aliens (creatures from outer space). They do not mean illegal aliens. Undocumented persons entering this country illegally.
