What's a good motorcycle for beginners?

I don't want it to be too girly and I want it to be under $1500. Thanks!

250, however 250 speeds may become boring depending on the bike. I'd suggest going for a dual sport though. I'm loving my dual sport. On/Off road. Can't beat it. Get yourself a Suzuki DR, it's a great bike. Buy something you don't think you'll get sick of but too go too large in size.

What do you want to use it for? I'm a big fan of older enduros for a cheap first motorcycle. Look up Yamaha XT350s and see what you think. Great fun around town and it will hold 70 on the highway until you get to a trail. Hard to beat that kind of fun on a moped budget.

What's "girly"? I ride a scooter sometimes, and your mom thinks it's awesome.

If you are talking about a street bike any used 250 will do.
