Goodman A/C?
My A/c is not working...the fan runs but stop after a couple of hours...the the top of the a/c is hot...really hot...A technician looked at it the other day and said there was a clog in the e coil...he did a flush and clean everything out...fyi I buy the 3 month air filters so that's about how often I change the filter(every month give or take 15 to 30 days). Well that didn't fix the problem the fan is still and overheating and cutting off ...but when it's on you can feel the cool air coming form the vent...Another tech came out the next day to see why that didn't fix the problem and said the issue is coming from a weak compressor. Can a weak compressor run the fan hot and cause it to overheat and shutoff? Or will a new fan motor fix the problem? Thank you in advance.

The fan can run hot for several reasons. A weak run capacitor, dirty condenser coils, a failing motor, a faulty contactor, and a weak compressor can overheat the fan motor.
If this were mine, I'd pull the fan out & reverse wash the condenser coils with a garden hose from the inside of the unit and then change the start/run capacitor, then check the fan operation and see if it feels like it's blowing enough air through the coils. If it seems slow, then replace the fan motor.
I'm a P.T. handyman and also have a 16 year old 4 ton Goodman condenser at my house. See what your tech guys would charge to clean the condenser and replace the start/run cap, or call a local handyman for their rates. I'd charge $100-125 to do that .
