Why is 32.6 LY a standard distance from the earth ? I saw it in a book pub. in 1980. Thanks, Bomba?

Update:

OK the answer is 10 parsecs. Thanks. .Why is one degree of parallax chosen to derive the parsec ? Parallax doesn't work for measuring the greater distances, so is one deg of parallax that limit or is it just another convenient unit of measure ?
