What would be cheaper to use a hot plate or a stove?

Keep in mind I will not have the hot plate plugged in 24/ 7

    How big a hotplate, what type of stove, gas or electric? Costs per BTU of heat? Not enough to give you a good answer.

    In your car? I would suggest the hot plate as most stoves to not fit in most cars.

    6 of one half a dozen of the other - wattage is wattage efficiency should be pretty close to identical. Takes as certain amount of energy to heat food - more wattage = less time-on, less wattage = more time on takes the same amount of energy to heat food either way.
