Do i have to pay a bill if the original amount is different from what is being asked by a debt collecting agency?
I changed by Gas supplier and recieved a bill from a collection company for £145.48. When i enquired they claimed it was for energy used 4 years ago so i asked for a copy of the original bill, when i recieved the bill it was for £142.48. I informed them the amounts were different but they kept sending me letters from various agencies for £145.48 even though i explained the amounts were different by phone several times,I am still geting the usual threatening letters , what is going to happen?

Yes.
The amount the debt collection agency will be asking for will be higher than the original bill as they add their charges on which you have to pay.

Yes. Debt collectors don't work for free. That's why you should clear your debts well before debt collection starts.

you are getting threatening letters because you didn't pay your bill, write a check for the amount they are asking and on the back above where they endorse write- payment in full when endorsed, end of issue

Maybe. They'd have to say why it's different. Maybe accumulated interest and late fees?

If it is now in collections, there are legal penalties added on (interest, other expenses).
