Leaving the vehicle running while pumping gas?

Help settle an argument with my special friend Troy and me. We cruised around San Francisco this weekend on vacation and when we stopped for gas in the Castro, we got into a huge argument. He had bought me some delicious paninis that I was munching on in the front seat and lighting up my second cigarette of the day when I noticed that he hadn’t turned off the ignition while filling the car up with gas!!!! I feel he is incredibly dangerous with his behavior and let him know that he was endangering my life. Imagine leaving a car running while filling up! What an idiot!!!!

I chastised him since this is incredibly unsafe to do this. He said that since it is an electric car (we have a Prius), there is no danger. I disagree.

Who is right?

SMOKING A CIGARETTE WHILE FUELING UP IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN LEAVING THE CAR RUNNING.

Fuel up while the car is running will damage some vehicles and cause a emission error code. Also it is not a smart thing to do.

And having a Prius I call B.S. on this one.

    Same for smoking.

You both are "special"! Both are retards for doing so.

As for the extra info I would assume your "special friend" meaning you both take it in the tail pipe. Meaning what is more dangerous and unhealthy is some queer taking it in the tailpipe and getting aids or some other homosexual related disease.

It is required to turn off the engine. Every gas station I have ever been to has a sign that says this.

Notice that to an outside observer there is no difference among can't-read, didn't-read and won't-read. Read the signs.

Obvious troll - your food and smoking details are irrelevant and a Prius is NOT an electric car, it's a hybrid. It only runs on electric alone a small percentage of time - and you stated the engine was running. It would not run while stopped unless you had the AC on.

"lighting up my second cigarette" who cares?

    "I was munching" who cares?

"Incredibly dangerous" not really. The chances of a spark flying out the exhaust and igniting the fumes are about the same as winning the lottery.

Also, in Ca., fumes rarely escape, as the nozzle is designed to suck fumes back through the hose and save them.

Not only can the car and the station explode, thieves will jump into a running car and take off with the car.

Always turn off the ignition and remove the keys when filling you car.

It's not quite AS dangerous as when gas was leaded. But it's still not smart.

You are right the car could start on fire and/or explode. Very unsafe
