What exactly does "single-spaced mean"?

I'm a community college student taking a composition class. As part of the class, we have to keep a journal, writing about different topics the instructor gives us.

She clarified in her syllabus that these journal entries must be "single-spaced". These aren't typed; we just use a regular paper notebook and pen. In this case, what does single-spaced mean? Does that mean that instead of continuing my writing on the next line, I have to skip a line? So then every second line in the notebook would be blank? Or is it the opposite and I shouldn't skip any lines, so that every line has writing on it?

Update:

Thank you both so much.

What single-spaced means when you are writing in your journal is to used every space on lined paper. Do not skip a space, but write a lot and don't skip any lines. The teacher of your writing class wants you to write a lot in your journal. Good luck. I was a college professor.

Single spaced probably means to NOT skip a line if you are writing on paper. Send your instructor a note or stop by her office hours to make sure you are doing the right thing.

Single-spaced means that you write on every line in the notebook. If you skipped every other line, it would be considered double-spaced.

    Write on every line.
