Why do some push bike riders wear leotards booties & gloves ?

Get your damn terminology straight. We don't wear leotards. We wear cycling JERSEYS & padded cycling shorts. And they serve multiple functions.

A) The jersey helps to "wick away" sweat (perspiration) to keep the rider COOLER!

B) Both the jersey & shorts fit snugly for aerodynamics. Try riding a bicycle at 20 to 25 mph in a T-Shirt that flops around or baggy shorts that allow air to slip up under the leg openings. It only slows the rider down.

D) I only wear (in your words) booties in the winter. Wouldn't you want something to protect your feet from the cold when the temperature drops below the FREEZING POINT?

I sometimes wear a skin suit not a leotard and lycra overshoes. It's to do with aerodynamics. If you're going to use things like aerobars etc. to decrease wind resistace then it makes sense to wear tight fitting lycra clothing. The better your aerodynamic profile the more efficient will be your cycling.

Gloves protect your hands if you should fall, booties are either for aerodynamics or for warmth, and those are not leotards. Cycling clothing is form fitting both for comfort and to reduce wind resistance
