Why is it that with Norfolk Southern, it seems like they are the only railroad hiring conductors right now but other Class I's aren't?

It's been about 3 years since BNSF or UP has posted such positions and roughly 10 years with CSX. Well not exactly 10 years with CSX, they did post a conductor position for both Florida and Ohio twice, but then they cancelled it. Why is it? I have a friend trying to get in as well.

The Unions have driven up wages and lawyers have driven up litigation. The railroads, just like farmers and all have automated as much as possible. The railroads have found automation to be safer and never gets tired. The jobs are hard to keep because the level of accuracy required to handle trains is unforgiving, with billions of dollars of consist ridding a man's wits. The hours are all over the place and new comers only work seasonally. If you are serious about a real american job, vote republican.

It's because the economy is in such bad shape regardless of what the Democrats tell you. We have a bunch of people furloughed here on the UP.
