Sore throat after amoxicillin?
Yesterday, I was prescribed amoxicillin pending a recent tooth extraction infection, and I took my first dosage last night. However, when I woke up this morning, my throat felt so dry and stuck together when I tried to swallow. It feels sore and no amount of drinking water is making it feel better. I'm already taking co-codamol for help with the infection pain, but I don't think I should end up taking three sets of pills at the same time.
Is this caused by the amoxicillin and can I expect it to calm down once I finish my course of antibiotics?

No, it shouldn't cause throat pain.
By the way, did the dentist warn you that this antibiotic causes yeast infections at a very high rate? If you're going to take it, he or she should also prescribe Diflucan, a one-dose oral anti-fungal that will get rid of the yeast infection should you develop one. No doctor or dentist should prescribe amoxicillin without discussing this very common potential problem with the patient.
Get back to your dentist and discuss the throat pain and the possibility of a yeast infection with him or her. Eat yogurt with live cultures, a couple of cups a day. It may help prevent infection. There's another type of infection amoxicillin can cause, it's called c.diff., but eating 16 oz. of yogurt per day while you're on it has been shown to help prevent it.
