In these two sentences which are the adverbs?

Jim will see us on Tuesday.

I dropped the groceries onto the floor.

    Us for the first one. Who?

    Groceries for the second. You bought what? They could be guns and ammo from the pawn shop and you could have just called them groceries.

    A preposition is a word that fills in a space because you're either too lazy or do not want to explain enough.

    An Adverb is like a preposition except it links the verb to something. It's still a preposition except it's related.

    "it" is a preposition while "Johns stuff"' would be an adverb. Since you didn't say what groceries you mine as well have just said We picked it up from the store. Picked what up? The contents are the words.

    "On Tuesday" and "onto the floor" are prepositional phrases which act as adverbs.
