To psychologist and therapists. What are the most ridiculous things people have said to you about your profession?
For example, my friend says therapists want you to hate your childhood.

Therapy is a course of approximately two years, the first year requires a strengthening of the self, a fortification of the mind in readiness of the cleansing procedure of confrontation of the childhood trauma. Once accomplished activation of the traumatic experiences begins. Activation of the incidences causes immense relived trauma and the shame, guilt, negative emotions associated with it. Adult maturity accepts, redressed, reconciles, the incidences as life, amd begins therefore to process the trauma to clear and cleanse the mind. The adult attachment to languid childhood memories is escapism from its adult world of torment. To redress this discrepancy disassociation for the childhood memories deceptive in their idyllic comfort, requires an awakening to the trauma, it's culprits, causes and affiliates, understanding causes, reasons, the psychosis and dilemmas of all associated with it, forgiveness, disassociative from them and moving on towards peace, the struggle to hold onto the comfort zone of a childhood containing these repressed incidences causes a dual compulsion/revulsion, resulting in torment and mental imbalance and psychosis. Once activated, understood, processed, the individual moves on from the two year course of therapy.
The accusation that therapists seek to turn the patient away from childhood is partly the painful processing of realisation of violations by persons in authority. Adaptation of the species causes tolerance of behavioural discrepancies, in adulthood known to be violations, unresolved because they are attached to memories of comfort, guardianship and care.
It's a process of redressing, disassociating and becoming an individual, able to differentiate between maladaptive behavioural patterns in the self and others. Compassion and mindfulness lends a moral conscience and a sense of a forgiveness permitting the detachment from these experiences and associated persons, allowing the patient liberation from their ordeals culprits.
Many have suffered debilitating traumas at the hands of trusted people, unresolved, unacknowledged and unprocessed. Therapy takes the patient on a course of action to liberate them from the torment, stress and pain such maladaptive schema cause.

I hear a lot of they are trying to control your mind. I'm not a therapist, but I am a mental patient advocate. It's amazing how ignorant people are about the field. There are others who claim it's all fake, unproven, poison, etc.

i feel like that over exaggerated. they do dig deep into childhood because that is always the root of the issues. but they dont want you to hate it. i remember i never wanted to go to therapy because i thought that therapists were perfect and happy people who have never had problems and i thought "how can someone who is so happy understand how someone can be so miserable" i now realize its not that black and white. i am better able to help people now because of all the things ive been through.
