400 litre stocking?
Hi all
I am getting a 400 litre fish tank.
I like the idea of neon tetras and discus.
How many discus can I fit in a fish tank that size.
Also what's better gravel or sand for
Discus?
So they like planted tanks.
Any tips on keeping them.
Any other stocking ideas?

Discus need temperatures in the 80s, and Neon Tetras don't do well in water that warm. The closely related Cardinal Tetras, however, would do very well in temperatures in the 80s, and would make a good substitute. They do require acidic water (6.5 pH or lower), but that would be best for the Discus as well.
The temperature of the water does present some problems for live plants as well. But some live plants that will work in that temperature include Wisteria, Water Sprite, Amazon Sword, Java Fern, Anubias, Vallisneria, and African Water Fern.
Most Discus keepers use sand as the substrate. Pool filter sand is smooth and economical for large tanks.
Other tank mates that can go well with Discus include German Blue Rams, Sterbai Corydoras Catfish, and Otocinclus Catfish.
Groups of 6 or more are good for spreading out aggression in Discus. You should easily have room for that many and more, even if you get more of the other species, too.
