When building a wall frame, is the stud spacing measured....?

From one side to the other or measured from both sides, in towards the middle?

Update:

I mean along the whole wall. Do I measure the on center measurement going from one end of the wall to the other end? There's going to be atleast one stud that doesn't have equal spacing on both sides. If I measure from both ends of the wall, that unequal spacing will be in the middle of the wall. If I measure from one end to the other, that unequal space will be on one end of the wall.

It's a center to center measurement. However it's easier and the same distance if you measure as follows. Looking at two studs measure from the left side of the first stud to the left side of the next stud.

Putting the smaller gap at either end is easier to find studs after the wall is finished.

The "odd" spacing is usually left on one end or the other. It is not critical which one you choose.
