What does "moved in a different direction" mean after job interview?
Lets say you have interview and they want a 2nd interview with you. The person scheduling interviews tries to get you an interview but then says "they moved in a different direction." What does that even mean? Is that a hint that they didnt like interview? Or does it literally mean something else came up where something happened where they couldnt interview anyone anymore (or something like that)?

It could mean that the company decided to hire someone else or they decided to outsource (temp) the position.
Happens to many of us who been in that position after an interview or a second interview. I would take this as a positive note that I was considered. In the meanwhile, keep sending out resumes until you find a job.
Good Luck.

Sadly, it means that you are not a good fit. But, don't let it get you down. Be proud that you are not a good fit. How many jobs have you had where the place was full of dweebs? How many jobs have you had where you could not believe how many idiots were working there? NOT A GOOD FIT is usually a good sign that you escaped a living death. Get as far from that place as you can. Run for your ever lovin' life.
There will be a good fit ---- down the road and around the bend. Go find it.

It means they moved in a different direction by finding another candidate that they are going to give the position to.

it means the job they were publishing is no longer available, they chose to do some alternative to what they had planned, and hiring a temp could be one of the alternatives or they could simply realize their procedure didn't actually need this position and they eliminated it

It basically means they are not going to hire you for their company. It is a diplomatic way of conveying to a candidate that he/she is not selected.

I'd say all of that could be what it means. I've only heard that phrased used in a negative sense to say they don't need you anymore.

It means they decided to hire a different candidate and will not be hiring you.
