I think that sexual issues can and should be explained to the child when he is 11 or so.

If he can talk and understand words, I don't think it's too early. Tell him about these other people who occupy the world he lives in who are different and what he needs to watch out for, what he needs to not let them pressure him into accepting them do, and tell him to try to be nice to people by default and not automatically assume the worst of them but be always wary of them, and I don't think 6 is too young for that. You don't want to drive a wedge between you and your son by telling him something that seems to be too at odds with what he sees around him though.

You learn to understand individuals, man or woman, by interacting with individuals.
