I'm starting to question my liberal ideas, any thoughts from someone older?

Update:

I thought the DNC had my back, then Obama worked overtime trying to outsource jobs with the TPP and Hillary joined him... while Trumps opposed it.

I thought Obamacare was great. Now my job charges $200 a month just for a health plan that lets me see a doctor without meeting a $5000 deductible first.

I thought the 1% were lined up behind Republicans. Then in the recent election I found out they're all lined up behind Hillary and have given Trump almost nothing.

You will ALWAYS question these IDEAS. That's the thing, I could have cared less who was President when I was young. I find that Liberals only BELIEVE what THEY HEAR. As if NO DEMOCRAT would EVER LIE to RUN an EMPIRE. I've lived all over the world, Africa, Germany, Italy and I love people. I have seen the otherside of Life. I have lived the otherside of life. And when a CHILD right of a Liberal Arts school tells me I have no idea what I'm talking about and that their TEACHERS told them that's not how it is. ITS A FACT to them. Wasn't there a time when young intellectuals were told to QUESTION everything? Now they March to the Sound of a WOMAN solely supported by Wallstreet and BANKS. I love being open minded and letting another story soak in. But NOT these Kids. Its "This is the way it is or you are EVIL" Do they even know what EVIL is...What REAL Racism is?? Why would people use this WORD to describe disagreeing with someones ideals?? IT takes away the POWER of that word. I feel like I'm in the "The Stepford Wives" and they are all lined up for the slaughter. NEVER questioning their FATE.

The 1% has got both parties under its thumb.

    The republicans are more extremist.

Right now, the Democrats seem to have the monopoly on sane governance.

I'm not a big fan of the corporate-friendly world they present either, but that's still miles above the fascism presented by the other party. (I know, cynicism).

Basically, I look at it as a fight.

You win what you can get, you forget about the rest.

In this election, my main goal is to make sure fascism doesn't get to be a legitimate government in America. (That means not voting for Donald Trump).

Will Hillary Clinton democrats get us more inaction on global warming and the rise of the rich as a new undisputed aristocracy over world affairs? Yes, probably, despite all promises.

But (and here's the pragmatist part) we can fight those battles once she gets elected. At least she has shown a willingness to listen, if only out of self-interest.

Under Trump, all that definitely goes out the window.

I think when it comes to what you perceive to be "Liberal" decisions, choices and tendencies in our government, and you don't consider what the politician had to go through to get this decision implemented, you are not seeing the whole truth of what that politician believes in. Politicians must deal with "the other party" in their decisions. Compromise is always there, messing up the purity of the ideas they believe in.

For example, Obama, I think, would have been a supporter of government health care, like Canada has. But because the country would not have gone along with that, he could only get "Obamacare" passed. The problems you face with the healthcare plan at your company may not have anything to do with "Liberalism." It may be a result of Conservatism inserted into the basic healthcare reform that Obama would have wanted.

Healthcare for everyone as a basic right is a Liberal idea. It's a new idea to America. Used to be that healthcare was more reasonable in its cost. Not so much technology—because it hadn't been invented. Individual doctors plying their trade, not enormous for-profit medical industries that run the show. Consider the pharmaceutical industry. They are

allowed to make tons of money with no restrictions in some cases. You should see what I have to pay for some of my prescriptions, ON MEDICARE. Medicare is a liberal kind of government service, diminished by conservative, free-market sort of ideology.

Taking aspects of your life and deciding am I in favor of "Liberal ideas?" or "Conservative ideas?" on the basis of whether you like how your life is going right now vis a vis laws and policies which are affecting you, isn't a deep enough approach. You need to think about the actual

philosophy behind each approach, and how well it works, HOW it works, what the problems of each are, and especially how they influence each other in the running of the government as the two approaches run into each other in congress and courts etc.

I think one of the worst things to happen to this country has been Fox News. It took the idea that you can say anything you want to advertise a product, other than a blatant lie—you can imply and suggestion and make associations (a picture of a beautiful woman with white teeth smiling to advertize toothpaste) and you are within your rights. Fox News spread terrible associations which amounted to lies when push came to shove, but they were cleverly run to stay clear of the law. Masses of people who had never been trained to think logically fell for what they were saying.

But I say, about Trump—you don't have to listen to a word he says—and you shouldn't—to make your decision about him. The expressions on his face tells you all you need to know about the kind of person he is.

If there is such a thing as an "evil" man, he is one.

  • I'm 60 and until this century I was an independent moderate. Still am but now I have to vote against the Republicans just to keep the church out of the government. They are both deceivers but the GOP is the most dangerous. Trump cannot, and will not, do anything he says.

    Tpp is probably dead.

Your employer choose the plan not Obama, other companies with unions tend to get much better plans. It's passable you could get a rebate on your premium at the end of the year.

The 1% do line up with republicans and still do. They just don't like Trump, he is to unpredictable and they don't like many of his ideas, Congress will not support many of them, like the wall. They are supporting republicans down the ticket.

Your senses of logic and compassion can be completely switched off if you watch Fox News in the evening and listen to Limbaugh in the afternoon, to keep the brainwashing 24/7.

Sure.........Republicans are the ones who pushed the racist birther stupidity for the last 8 years.

Liberals are the ones who understood where Hawaii was from Day ONE.

    Any questions?

TPP is designed to destroy AMerican standard of living. Obamacare is designed to make government in charge of healthcare and get to decide who receives it and who does not. Soros, Buffett, Gates, Zuckerberg are all big time libs who benefit from a big government and want more of it. Republicans are not all that great but they are better than Dems who are completely evil. Check out the Constitution party also
