Baseball Last Day of Season Question?

It came down to the final day for the Giants and the Cardinals.

Is there a rule that requires the Dodgers and Pirates to use their best players available? The Dodgers are already in and the Pirates are out of playoff contention.

No, but you would think the opposing managers would be interested in the integrity og the game, which is to provide the best possible competition that you can.

The team already in the playoffs might rest certain players and pitchers to prepare for the post-season. There is no rule against it and common sense says that doing so, if needed, is a smart decision.

There are no rules stating what players have to play. Think about it. How could there be? The league can't tell a team what their lineup should be or who to pitch.

  • No, there's no such rule. Besides, there might be a disagreement on who the best players are.
