Would someone please answer my car question, please?

I take very good care of my older car (2000 Ford Focus). Today I was driving and suddenly, I began to smell gasoline. I thought it was the car in front of me until I had to stop at a light. While sitting and waiting for the light to change, my car just stopped running. It started right up though. I called the place where I get my car serviced and the guy said it may have been just a random thing happening. If it continues to happen, I should get it checked. I need my car a lot in the next few weeks and cannot take the chance of breaking down. Do you think it could be the fuel pump? I made an appointment to bring the car in on Monday but I just want an idea of what I may expect. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Fuel pump is in the gas tank and has probably been replaced twice under warranty. Normally you don't smell your own car - but did you bother to pull over and look under the hood for leaking fuel? IF not you missed an opportunity to diagnose yourself.

If the place is reputable they will check fuel lines, and look for leaks - if nothing found will tell you so and send you on your way. IF they try to sell you an intake/fuel system cleaning - tell them to go pound sand - they charge 150 bucks to spray some BG cleaner in the intake and pocket 139 bucks - will not fix your problem if you have one.

Ford makes great Trucks, but their cars are not known to last a long time. Your focus is almost 17 years old and we do not have enough information as to what could be wrong with your car. It's possible it's the fuel pump, but it's still working if you can still drive it now. You'll just have to wait and see what they find on Monday.

We can't see a thing to advise you of. Perhaps, you should stop in at a shop where the mechanic has time to look under the hood to see if fuel is leaking.

I don't think I would worry a lot about it unless you still smell gas but I still would look around under the car and around under the hood and see if you can see any gas leeks or drips

your question is similar to someone asking YA about a pain they have in their arm....impossible to answer w/o seeing the vehicle.....good thing you made the appointment and hopefully you trust the mechanics at that shop to diagnose correctly AND not rip you off
