What kind of grammar error this sentence have? The principle visited the classroom and congratulated the student for perfect attendance.?

    The principal visited the classroom , and congratulated the student for perfect attendance.

    *The principle had visited the classroom and congratulated the student for pefrect attendance.

    It doesn't have any GRAMMAR errors. It does have a SPELLING error. "Principle" should be "principal." But both of them are nouns; nouns are allowed at that point in this sentence; so the grammar is OK.
