If the last 2 letters of CHERUB stand for Unit B, what happened to Unit A?

So I did some digging on the web and found out that CHERUB stands for Charles Henderson's Espionage Unit B

What happened to Espionage Unit A?

I've never read the series (nor even heard of them until now), but I'd guess there isn't a unit A. Two possibilities occur to me.

    1. The author just thought CHERUB would be a cool code name and thought of something for it to stand for.

    2. Within the stories, it's disinformation. If the enemy figures out what CHERUB stands for, they'll think, "If there's a Unit B, there must be a Unit A, and maybe a Unit C, Unit D, Unit E..." The aim is to trick the enemy into wasting time and resources trying to discover information about something that doesn't exist, so they can't spend as much time and resources investigating the thing that does exist. (Of course, having the name of the guy who runs the unit in its name rather defeats the object of that, unless "Charles Henderson" isn't his real name...)
