How much time should I spend in Osaka, vs Kyoto vsTokyo. If I only have 9 days?

I was planning on spending a day each in kyoto and osaka then spending a week in Tokyo. But as i might have the chance to spend a week in tokyo a month before this time, I was considering spending 3 days in each; Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo

I would say stay in Osaka as a base and tour Kyoto from there. The last time I was in Japan I did a day trip from Osaka to Hiroshima, and that was no problem.

Osaka is basically a clone of Tokyo.

Spend 3 days in Tokyo, one in Himeji, one in Nara, and the rest in Kyoto. After the temples of Kyoto close down around 5 PM, you can zip over to Osaka and on another evening, Kobe.

I have spent time visiting both Tokyo and Osaka and I can say that Osaka / Kyoto are a lot more fun to travel around. That's just my opinion though, really depends on what you want to do and see.

Theres really not a lot worth seeing sightseeing wise in Osaka. You are better off using it as a base to visit Kyoto and Nara. You could spend a week in Kyoto and not see everything.
