is it illegal to have two legal drivers licenses, in the same state?
I recently went to the drivers license office to obtain a class E drivers license. The guy who processed all my information told me it was only his second day after he had to retake my picture and signature. Yesterday I checked my mail and found two letters from the drivers license office. I received two new drivers licenses. Each one has a different signature and different picture from when the guy at the office had to retake my picture. One of the licenses has the same drivers license number as my previous license, but the second license has a completely different number. Is it illegal for me to have two LEGAL drivers licenses issued by the state? Can I start using my new drivers license, with the new license number, and clean driving history for something such as insurance so that my rates are reduced? I'm really in a pickle here and don't know what I can and cannot do.

It's very illegal to have two licenses. One person one licence, that's the law in every state and province. No exceptions are allowed and no excuses are accepted.
The licence card with the most recent issue date is your real licence, the other one is useless.

No. You cannot have two valid licenses. Only one of those licenses is valid. Using the invalid one can get you in trouble. To protect yourself from trouble, return to the DMV with both licenses and explain what happened. They will handle it.

The one with a new number is not yours. If you are caught using it you will be fined. Take it back.
