A friend just gave me a bunch of Iris bulbs. Is it too late to plant them now? I live in Western NY.?
If it is too late, what should I do with the bulbs?

Plant them but do not bury them, the tops MUST be showing, they are not bulbs but rhizomes. Iris are swamp plants to put it quickly and need an exposed surface showing for the rhizome. Also cut the leaves back to 4". Every 5 years or so, split them up and give some to your other friends. If you don't split them they crowd themselves out and don't do so well. The same for daylillies and shasta daisy.

Unless the ground is below frezing it's ok. Make sure to add bulb food and water them in

If the ground is not frozen, what is the problem? Just follow the nature.
If you would like, keep them in a paper bag in the garage until spring.
