What if Russia starts a nuclear war?

Hear me out. What if Hillary enacts the no-fly zone over Syria, Russia flies a plane into it despite being informed, the US shoots it down, and as a response, Russia launches a single nuke...but onto the most pointless territory possible as a warning shot, e.g. on US waters, or in the middle of the Nevada desert? Will the US still go to nuclear war with Russia?

the doctrine that covers that is "proportionate response".  if they use a single nuke on a worthless target, we do the same

Russia is already installing anti aircraft weapons in Syria. ISIS does not have aircraft. The only one in that area that has aircraft is the US who is using their air power to help Iraq defeat ISIS.

Russia is already preparing to fight the US. Hillary is on America's side. I trust her more to avoid an unnecessary war than Trump. I trust her as commander-in-chief who will fight for America if Russia wants to fight. I do not trust Trump because he will give Russia whatever it wants and make America weaker in the process.

Why should Russia oppose a no-fly zone over Syria? Unless Russia is about fighting anti-Assad rebels instead of fighting ISIS.

Nobody launches a nuke as a warning shot.

The Air Force's "space plane" will drop targeted warheads from orbit, triggering EMP to disable a Russian counter-retaliatory strike, and then we follow up with surgically precise elimination of Russian nuke sites.

The real problem would be getting all their ballistic missile subs.
